Get help. Know your rights.

We advocate for the rights of people experiencing unsafe or unstable housing and chronic homelessness, and the rights of people who use substances. No judgment, no barriers — this page is for you or anyone you love.

Harm reduction

If you use, don't use alone

📞 NORS — National Overdose Response Service

1-888-688-6677

A free, confidential line for anyone in Canada. Call before you use — a real person stays on the line with you, and sends help only if you stop responding. 24/7.

Naloxone saves lives

Free take-home naloxone kits and training are available at most BC pharmacies and health units — no ID, no questions. Find a kit near you (Toward the Heart) →

Kits are also available at the studio. Just ask.

In crisis or thinking about suicide? Call or text 9-8-8 — free, 24/7, anywhere in Canada. For a medical emergency, call 911. BC's Good Samaritan law protects you when you call for help at an overdose.

Voter rights

No fixed address? You can still vote.

You have the right

You do not need a permanent home to vote in Canada. Experiencing homelessness does not take away your vote — federal, provincial, or municipal.

Proving where you live

A shelter, drop-in centre, or place you get services can confirm your address with a letter — and the studio can help you get one.

Know your rights

Plain-language rights cards

Placeholder — add printable one-page cards (PDF) on rights during police, housing, and healthcare encounters. Good sources to adapt with permission: BC Civil Liberties Association and Pivot Legal Society. [Lana to review wording before these go live.]

With police

What you must say, what you can refuse, and what to do if your belongings are taken. Card coming soon.

Housing & shelters

Your rights in shelters, SROs, and encampments — and who to call when they're violated. Card coming soon.

Healthcare

You have the right to care without judgment, including as a person who uses substances. Card coming soon.

Local services

Placeholder — a short, verified directory of Kamloops services: food, shelter beds, health, peer support. [Build this list with Lana — only services the collective trusts and has confirmed.]

Not sure where to start? Come to the studio. If we can't help, we usually know who can.
